One of the common questions we hear from our dental patients here at Jackson Dental in Lapeer is: “How can I properly care for my teeth?”

We’ve answered your questions by putting together some information on how to properly brush, floss and choose toothpaste that is best for your dental health.

Brushing: Everyone should brush their teeth at least twice a day – once before going to bed and once in the morning. Night-time tooth brushing before going to sleep is especially important because it will prevent bacteria in your mouth from building up and attacking your tooth enamel all night. Teeth should be brushed from side to side, and in circular motions so as to cover each entire tooth.  As your Lapeer dentist will tell you, it is important to remember that brushing your teeth too hard can damage them or make them sensitive.

 

Flossing: You should floss once each day. This is an often overlooked part of dental hygiene, but flossing is incredibly important to your teeth and gums. Flossing can help remove plaque from your teeth, keep your gums healthy, and avoid costly problems like gum disease and gingivitis.  Protecting your gums now can protect your whole mouth in the long run.
